Posted 4 October, 2011. You can "get away" with 6000K bulbs in normal headlamps, IF you align them properly. But starting next year they'll almost definitely fail an MOT. I'd just buy some whiter halogen bulbs, personally, I had 6000K HIDs on my old car but they're impossible to align as well as halogens.

You can also buy HID conversion kits for halogen headlamps but their legality is questionable. The 6000k you mention refers to the colour temperature (basically the colour of the light). 4300k is the standard factory colour and gives a very white light. 6000k is slightly bluer and more akin to what Mercedes use.

There is an alternative to 3000k painted hid, that is a ghettoer version of it that looks like a bright halogen, ive used them before in h3 fogs and its very odd. The capsule is 100% clear but the beam is prob 3500k maybe 3700k. The goal is probably to get around laws such as ours that limit painted filaments in headlights. CM

Cars with those 10-12000K blue and purple HIDs would be obvious. They also make you LOOK like a F&F reject in my opinion. Be sure you check and re-aim your headlights after you install the kit.
