Bottom line. All in all, the 787 Dreamliner is a great aircraft to work on. The flight deck is a comfortable place to spend a night out of one's own bed, the air quality is superior to any other aircraft which I've flown on and the performance allows it to do things many other aircraft cannot.

The engineer One of the most unique things about the 787 is its raked wingtip, where the wing sweeps upwards at the end. It's designed to give the aircraft more fuel efficiency and allow it to climb in a better way. It's probably the first time we've seen this in commercial service.

Why Boeing 777 is so noisy. Probably because of it's huge engines.
More noise comes in as the plane approaches the runway: Panels on wings extend, along with landing gear; engines sometimes rev up. Landing can get as noisy as takeoff when thrust reversers are used on the runway to slow the plane. On a Boeing 777, that got my meter back up over 95 decibels.

The cabin altitude on the 787 Dreamliner is much lower than on other aircraft. Finally, the fuselage of the Dreamliner is made from carbon fiber instead of the conventional aluminum. Not only does this make it lighter but it also makes it much stronger, meaning that it can withstand much higher cabin pressurization.

Has anyone flown on the 787? I know air plane accidents are really rare (And even in most cases 95% of people survive as a plane rarely goes smashing into a mountain or drops out the sky. It usually has to do a crash landing or whatever). But yeah what are your thoughts? Best wishes, Scott Report inappropriate content 1-10 of 23 replies Sorted by

I agree with James that the Dreamliner 787 is as safe as any modern commercial jet aircraft. However, I am troubled by Boeing’s decision to keep the lithium-ion battery, in spite of all the trouble it has already caused, instead of replacing it with a proven safer technology, as other aircraft manufacturers have done, including its main competitor, Airbus:
