Looking for an answer to the question: Are airport authorities government agencies? On this page, we have gathered for you the most accurate and comprehensive information that will fully answer the question: Are airport authorities government agencies?

(December 2009) An airport authority is an independent entity charged with the operation and oversight of an airport or group of airports. These authorities are often governed by a group of airport commissioners, who are appointed to lead the authority by a government official.

The Authority employs approximately four hundred (400) personnel and numerous others by way of service contracts. While working in partnership with all stakeholders, its mandate is to ensure the safety of each airport user.

The FAA does not have the statutory authority to regulate airports operated by U.S. Government agencies, including airports operated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). The revised Part 139 clarifies that the rule does not apply to these airports (see § 139.1 (c) (2)).

The authority was formed on 1 December 1995 (initially as the Provisional Airport Authority in 1990) through Airport Authority Ordinance and is independent of the government financially. There are plans to corporatise the AA and to list it on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and to partially sell it to the public.
