Alex makes good rims. They're mostly known for their road rims, but they make quality mtb rims as well. They're like any rim manufacturer, they have their OEM models and aftermarket models. But the RHD 26's on your Hopper are of good quality, double walled with eyeleted spoke holes and reasonable weight and strength.
Many of our rims offer our TRS (Tubeless Ready System) technology. Simply install any tubeless compatible tire, rim strip, valve and sealant system for a complete tubeless solution. ALEX CSW technology is a precision CNC machined smooth sidewall to provide ultimate braking efficiency.

29er's have tons of bottom bracket drop (like 30+ mm's). Having your weight so far below the axles is the main reason they are more difficult to manual than a bike with 26" or 27.5" wheels. That increased BB drop is also the reason 29er's can feel so stable in many riding situations.
In my experience, 29ers wheelie just fine. In fact, I'd go as far to say they're even easier to wheelie than a smaller bike. A short back end on a bike may make it easier to loft the front, but it does absolutely nothing to keep you in the balance point sweet spot.
29" (ISO size 622) is actually the same rim diameter as 700C, although most 29" tires will not fit 700C road rims because they're too wide. 29" tires are popular with mountain bikers; search for 29" MTB. 650B (ISO size 584) is used for some randonneur bikes and other specialized bikes.

Ride Experience Largely because of their lower attack angle, 29ers roll over trail obstacles easier than 27.5-inch wheels. This translates to a slightly smoother ride and a bit less effort to keep the bike going.
The company mixes its own aluminum alloys and does its own extrusions and wheel building in its factory in Tainan. All of its aftermarket products are made there; the company also has some OE rims made in China.
Because of the larger diameter of the wheel, the 29er creates a larger contact patch with the ground and also rolls quite faster when up to speed. Even though it accelerates slower than a 27.5 wheel, 29ers can maintain their speed because of their advanced rollover capabilities compared to a smaller wheel size.
Seem to be good, sturdy, quality rims overall. This is my only experience with Alex rims but seems like they're a great product for the money. Also, how well they're built up initially will have a lot to do with performance.
Strength: weight and looks. Weakness: Spokes come loose during use, difficult to remain true, nipples Rust RUST! and the paint on the spokes comes off easily also the hole where the valve is for the tube has sharp edges. These Rims are light stylish and have a good brand name but are not immune to problems (Front Only) Next 10. Showing 1-10 of 22.

How to choose mountain bike rims: The tumultuous nature of mountain bike trails constantly abuses bicycles and their components. Because they are so close to the point of impact, rims are one of the most battered parts on any bike. Rocks, roots, stumps, ruts and everything in between smash into rims head on with only a tire separating the aluminum hoops from the ground.
i have been riding alex rims for years now. from the supra-d to the kaprun both for freeride and dh. and then their 20 inch bmx wheelset as well. good and strong.i have 4 set of alex rims total, and never had a prob .with anything from flatspot to cracks nothing really. the supra-d's are laced to saint hubs frnt and rear. 2 sets like that . the kaprun is a factory built wheelset.
The budget/winter/training wheel market is pretty competitive with most people wanting a 'nice' set for good weather and racing, with a cheaper set for general use, so these offerings from Alex Rims look a good bet with their modern wider rim and tubeless ready specifications.
Still think tyres will be the main culprit. The cheaper models have quite heavy 32mm tyres which even at 90psi will feel a bit draggy. Something like 25mm Conti 4 Season would be a good compromise between puncture resistance and performance. This is …
My usual experience is that the spokes at the joint need >5% higher. tension to bring the wheel to a round shape. Sometimes, not often, there is a lateral kick at the joint that requires the tension to be. uneven there. I don't associate this specifically with Alex or any. other particular manufacturer's rims.

The Alex EVO 2.3 is a good rim at a very good price. I'd call the rim average in general, but because the $44.99 retail price is on the lower end of the spectrum and we didn't have any issues, it gets a slightly above average rating. It was really nice to see a pretty strong, decently light rim check almost all my boxes.
