Any difference at all would be miniscule. The variation between shot to shot is going to be much much greater than any variation between a 26 and a 28 inch barrel.) The advantage of a 26" is that it will ba a little faster to get started moving. The 26" also might seem a bit more "handy."

It is better to put 1187 barrel on an 1187 receiver. *SOME* owners have installed 1100 barrels and have had them work, but others have not. The extractor slot on all but the latest 1100 barrel is probably too narrow for the 1187 extractor, and must be widened. An 1100 forend or a universal 1100/1187 synthetic forend will have to be used.

The short barreled 11-87's (18 & 21) don't have the regulating gas system of the longer barreled versions.

Lately I've been thinking about getting a shorter barrel for my trusty old 870 Express. I believe I got her in 1988. I've found the Remington 18" bead site replacement and another by Carlson, 18.5" with blade site. All I'd like to change out is the barrel, there will be no tacticoolification of the old girl, just a barrel swap for a resize.

You can go the other direction but putting a 2 3/4 inch barrel on a 1100 3 inch magnum receiver but going the other direction is asking for trouble. Yes Remington makes a 1100 3 inch Magnum gun. they do have magnum recievers, but its either or, they either shoot only 2 3/4 or only 3" shells. So if you get a magnum 1100, it only shoots 3" shells.

They also make a 18″ inch modified fixed bead barrel for all 3 models and they make a 24″ inch and 21″ inch vent rib REMCHOKE barrel for 870 12 and 20 gauge guns as well as the 11-87. The 18″ inch Modified fixed barrels were for Police contracts in the early 2000’s prior to flight control and they made run offs to sell to the public.
With it being a Supermag you can run any barrel, I would have concerns if you planned on running a 3 1/2 Magnum barrel on an 870 Wingmaster, (receiver strength) though. The same can be said for stocks. And no, 870 barrels and 1100/1187 barrels are not interchangeable.
